Abstract

This research report presents shipment volume and value forecast and recent quarter review of the Taiwanese desktop PC industry. The report includes desktop PC shipment volume, value, ASP, shipment by tier and maker, product mix analysis, as well as breakdowns by customer, shipment destination, and assembly location. The content of this report is based on primary data obtained through interviews with desktop PC makers. The report finds that in the Taiwanese desktop PC industry's shipment volume and value, which saw both relatively strong sequential and year-on-year growth in the second quarter of 2010, slowed down in the third quarter of 2010. The shipment of all-in-one models, which used to contribute the dominant share of the industry's total shipment, was weakened in the third quarter of 2010 and in the fourth quarter of 2010, the replacement demand for commercial desktop PCs is expected to have replaced AIO PCs to be a key growth driver for the industry. In addition, China outpaced North America in the third quarter of 2010 to become the industry's first largest shipment destination for the first time. Moreover, in anticipation to the rollouts of new platforms, to be launched by Intel and AMD in the first quarter of 2011, the industry's year-on-year and sequential growth in the fourth quarter of 2010 is estimated to have been affected. It is anticipated that the industry's shipment volume will slacken in the first quarter of 2011 and gradually grow upwards in the second and third quarters of 2011.
